Born Again But Not Free?

It’s very possible.

There are things for each one of us that can easily entangle us.

No one of us is “too strong” to fall.

For the Galatians the yoke of bondage was the law… they were turning from the grace of God back to “another gospel.”

They lost their freedom when they turned from the grace of God… but they didn’t see what had happened.

This also happens to us.  We find ourselves entangled again with things we were once free from and we wonder how it happened?

It’s always the flesh… when we submit to the desires of our flesh we find ourselves turning from the grace of God until we’re entangled again.

The cross... the power and wisdom of God!

What’s the solution?  It’s the cross!  The cross… the power and wisdom of God!  The Holy Spirit leads us to victory through the cross.  There’s no other way.

Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

Galatians 5:1 (NKJV)

This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

Galatians 5:16 (NKJV)

And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

Galatians 5:24 (NKJV)

And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

Luke 9:23 (NKJV)

We Have Received The Forgiveness Of Sins

He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

Colossians 1:13-14 (NKJV)

Three clear points from this verse are:

  1. He has delivered us – past tense
  2. We’re removed from the kingdom of darkness and are now in the kingdom of light – past tense
  3. We have received the forgiveness of sins – past tense

There’s a few pertinent questions we can ask from the above as born again Christians.

  • If He has delivered me, do I need any further deliverance?
  • If I’m forgiven in Christ what consequences do the sins of my forefathers have to me?

Given that the deliverance mentioned above came from God himself and if we accept Christ’s work at Calvary to be complete where would that put breaking generational curses in the lives of born again Christians?

Wouldn’t that make it not necessary at all?

Living The Christian Life

For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

Romans 10:4 (NKJV)

That’s a powerful verse. It means that faith in Christ supersedes the law.

Our right standing with God has nothing to do with our efforts or any conditions we feel we need to fulfill.

Faith in Christ has become our freedom. Nothing can be added… nothing.

What do we do with this freedom?

Living the Christian life is what we do with it.

What rules and obligations govern the Christian life? Eat this, not that? Give this not that?
Or is it obedience that comes from faith? The fruit of faith… being led by the spirit of God, being formed to the image of Christ, shaped and fashioned by the hand of God.

A life freely surrendered to the revelation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

God Is Spirit And His Word Is Truth… A Light In The Darkness

Our point of reference is so important… if it’s wrong then everything that flows from it is also wrong.

Born again Christians, our point of reference is not what we feel, it’s not what we or others think… it’s the word of God.

The word of God is powerful, living and active. It’s never outdated and never irrelevant.

Fashion changes, perceptions change, technology changes, climate changes, politics changes… but the heart of man doesn’t really change…there’s no new sin, no new weaknesses, no new attitudes… nothing new under the sun in that context.

The heart of man doesn’t really vary across culture, class or colour. It is what it is.

God’s word speaks to the heart of man. It speaks a truthful point of reference to those that accept. It’s not a “white man’s Gospel”, and “Jesus’ colour” is not relevant at all.

God is Spirit and His word is truth… a light in the darkness.

The Holy Spirit takes this word and writes it in our hearts. The word of God, written on the tablets of our hearts… this is our point of reference… our source of life and liberty.
